Macallan Gold 1824 Whisky

Macallan Gold was released in late 2012 as part of a series of colour-themed bottlings introduced to replace the distillery's age-statement expressions. Produced from 9-15yo first fill and refill sherry casks, it was designed to sit between the now-defunct 10yo Sherry Oak and 10yo Fine Oak bottlings.

About the Brand

Founded in 1824, The Macallan was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to be legally licensed. Since then, The Macallan has built a reputation as one of the world's truly great single malt whiskies. To fully appreciate The Macallan, we must understand the contributing influences of Scotland, Spain and North America, and of their respective natural raw materials, together with the methods and the craftsmanship, perfected over the generations, that combine to give such outstanding quality and distinctive character.

Tasting Notes

The Macallan is burnished gold in colour and on the nose is lemon citrus, a quiet note of vanilla is followed by dark chocolate with lingering floral and light oak notes, orange peel and an interlacing sweetness. Citrus and boiled sweets rule the palate, along with hints of ginger and cinnamon, while soft oak tones reveal toasted apples. The finish is Medium sweet, malty and slightly dry.

For a cheap to mid-priced whisky, it slides down like velvet, with a sweet but balanced taste. Definitely my go-to whisky...

True it's not the most mind blowing whisky and just because it says Macallan don't expect the very best- but it's very easy drinking.. let it rest in the glass for a while before tasting.. lovely apple , raisins and honey sweetness coming through and a nice oaky finish .. I would buy another bottle for sure.. Easy 4 stars
