Macallan 12 Year Old Sherry Oak Scotch Whisky

Aged in Spanish Jerez casks, the Macallan 12 year old, by some, is described as the best 12 year old single malt around. On the tongue, the Macallan 12 year old is slightly sweet with hints of honey, plum and vanilla. The finish, as you'd expect is, lingering and smooth with a slight spice note. We say the Macallan 12 year old has very few, if any, rivals

Tasting Notes

The Macallan 12 year old whisky has spent lots of time exclusively maturing in Jerez Sherry Oak casks and this probably explains the very dark colour. The colour is almost a red gold and it is easily one of the darker whiskies in the collection.Nosing the whisky brings the immediate sherried sweetness that you would expect from a whisky aged in a Sherry cask. There are fresh fruits and some flowers on the nose as well. The sweetness has little hints of vanilla in the background with not a very complex nose.

Honestly, this scotch is only okay at first taste. It's sweet and has an orange citrus taste. But after the initial, there is a tobacco taste that hangs in your mouth. I don't smoke so it surprised me that I enjoyed this taste. The finish has a spicy burn that is actually very enjoyable as long as you don't take too big of a drink. Too pricey for me for this scotch.
