Krug Grand Cuvée Brut Vintage 2000 Champagne
This is a vintage Champagne like no other, affectionately named ‘Stormy Indulgence’ by the house due to the chaotic climate of the last year of the millennium which featured violent storms and a stifling hot summer. The Krug 2000 born of this dramatic season is rich, complex and utterly indulgent. Krug 2000 is one of the most intense, dramatic and romantic Krug vintages ever made. As a Prestige Cuvée, Krug Champagnes age beautifully, developing in richness and elegance over time.
‘97/100. A powerhouse, with a dense and expressive core of toasted brioche, candied kumquat, espresso creme, crystallised honey and salted pistachio flavours. The fine, creamy mousse and well-meshed acidity lend a sense of finesse that cloaks the firm structure and exuberance of this impressive Champagne.’ Wine Spectator.
Pinot Noir (42%), Chardonnay (43%), Pinot Meunier (15%).
The Krug 2000 is actually very versatile when paired with food, try with; caramelised scallops, spicy sauces, rich gravies, sweet & sour sauces, and desserts with roasted fruits such as bananas, peaches and citrus fruits.
About the Brand
Over 170 years ago Joseph Krug broke with convention to follow his vision to create the most generous expression of Champagne every year, regardless of climatic unpredictability. Joseph’s bold experiment proved a triumph and he succeeded in creating Champagne like never before. To this day, the House of Krug lives and breathes his enduring philosophy, creating only prestige Champagnes since 1843.
‘Our philosophy is to select grapes from individual plots which will each express their characteristics , nuance and individuality. There is no hierarchy in our selection, no plot is considered better than another - some are no bigger than a garden. Each decision during blending of our wines takes into account the unique essence and character of each plot.’ Eric Lebel, Krug’s Chef de Caves
‘Whoever drinks Krug, at whatever moment, makes a small contribution to improving understanding between men, as it is impossible to feel bitter or jealous after tasting such nectar.’ Serena Sutcliffe, Head of Wine, Sotheby’s
