So why not check out our handpicked range of wines and spirits that will ensure to make your loved ones feel really special!

But before we help you create a perfect gift match, let’s take a little peak into the background of this love filled day.

    Who is St Valentine?

There are many different theories that have been contested in regards to who St Valentine actually is, however the core fact that is universally agreed upon is that he was martyred and buried on February 14th in Via Flaminia’s Roman Cemetery. The key confusion about St Valentine is whether it is about one saint or two conflated saints with the same name, therefore there are many different legends.

One of the most popular legends of St Valentine’s is that he was a priest whom was arrested for secretly marrying Christian couples in Rome. These couples were being persecuted by Emperor Claudius in the third century AD. After attempting to convert the Emperor to christianity during his time in jail, he was condemned to death. At the same time it was also said that he fell in love with the jailer's daughter and on the day of his execution - February 14th - he sent her a goodbye love letter signed ‘Your Valentine’.

King Henry VII officially declared the 14th to be the holiday of St Valentine’s Day in 1537!
