Meantime Brewing produce craft beer in Greenwich all year round, but their third festival sees 40 breweries from all over the world gather at The Old Brewery in The Royal Naval College for three days of beer tasting, food pairing and live music.
Tickets to the event, which kicks off 23 August until 25 August, includes a branded glass, tasting notes and six beer tokens to get you started. There'll be tutored beer and cheese tastings in the evenings, and to make sure you're still standing at that point it might be a good idea to line your stomach with some of the German, American or English food on offer. Pie, mash and liquor will sort you out, for sure. Book in advance.
For those looking to stay closer to home, why not celebrate carnival style with a Caribbean inspired cocktail as the Notting Hill annual parade kicks off.
Here’s one we made earlier:
Translated means “Free Cuba” and was popularised around the end of the Spanish American War.
This simple mixed drink is similar to a Rum & Coke, but the addition of fresh lime juice lightens up the drink and defines the Cuba Libre as a separate drink. It's an easy drink to remember and popular enough that it would be good to add it to the drinks to know list.
2 ounces light rum (available from drinks21.com)
Juice of 1/2 a lime
Prep Time: 3 minutes
Preparation: Squeeze the juice of half a lime into a collins glass. Add ice cubes.
Pour the rum and cola into the glass. Stir well.
